Project Description
Implemented under San Francisco's Green Schoolyard Initiative, Lawton Alternative School includes an fully ADA-accessible Outdoor Classroom and natural play areas integrated with building grounds improvements. Utilizing low water use plants and California native species, the design also includes a tactile and fragrance sensory garden benefiting the magnet school's focus on serving disabled students.
The improvements include new planting areas and seating meant to provide "cued" boundaries separating different age groups during play time. The Design Team facilitated the implementation of several community components, including a student mural and "Friends of the Urban Forest" street plantings.
Design team included Jeff McLane and Shalini Agrawal. We produced construction documentation with full long-form specifications and conducted construction administration for SFUSD on a fast track schedule.
